About

For the overlooked.

Fine-art nature photography rooted in curiosity, patience, and the belief that even the most misunderstood animals deserve to be seen.

The Photographer

A closer look at the animals we misunderstand.

I'm Joshua 'lowbass' Sommerfeldt, a fine-art nature photographer based in Charleston, South Carolina, specializing in reptiles, invertebrates, and the small wild lives that are easy to miss.

My work lives in the details: scales catching light, the architecture of an insect, the stillness of an alligator at the waterline. Through intimate macro and close-up portraits, I try to replace distance with curiosity and give animals that are often feared, dismissed, or misunderstood the chance to be seen on their own terms.

Lowbass Photography is also how I teach and build community. I share photography and editing on Twitch, and I founded The Web Creative Community to give artists a welcoming place to share, learn, and grow together. Whether I'm in the field, photographing reptiles at Repticon, or working live on stream, the goal is the same: slow down, look closer, and make room for a different kind of beauty.
